John Beech "Bridged Field: Found-Photo Drawings"

1906.00 руб

Artist John Beech is known for his innovative transformations of the seemingly mundane into startling works of originality. Proficient in several different mediums, in Bridged Field: Found-Photo Drawings he focuses on self-manipulated photographs. Since 2007 he has collected over 600 found photographs and applied his singular touch to each, letting the patterns and textures within the photograph become the grounds upon which he creates entirely new works of mysterious beauty. Presented here are 92 such pieces. Notable for their range of materials (oil enamel, vinyl paint, ink, pencil, and marker pen), the drawings display a diversity of methods to apply marks directly onto the surface of the prints, in some cases predominantly covering the photographic information, in others emphasizing and punctuating visible elements in the photograph. Deliberate paint passages often exist alongside accidental marks or gestures and incidental imagery may come to the forefront when the primary...

Margot Mifflin "Bodies of Subversion: A Secret History of Women And Tattoo"

1945.00 руб

Bodies of Subversion was the first history of women's tattoo art when it was released in 1997, providing a fascinating excursion to a subculture that dates back to the nineteenth-century and including many never-before-seen photos of tattooed women from the last century. Newly revised and expanded, it remains the only book to chronicle the history of both tattooed women and women tattooists. As the primary reference source on the subject, it contains information from the original edition, including documentation of: Nineteeth-century sideshow attractions who created fantastic abduction tales in which they claimed to have been forcibly tattooed. Victorian society women who wore tattoos as custom couture, including Winston Churchill's mother, who wore a serpent on her wrist. Maud Wagner, the first known woman tattooist, who in 1904 traded a date with her tattooist husband-to-be for an apprenticeship. The parallel rise of tattooing and...

"50 Photographs by Jessica Lange"

4871.00 руб

Actress Jessica Lange's career spans more than 30 years and 30 films; the winner of two Academy awards, the one-time waitress is one of the most acclaimed performers of both the screen and the stage, as well as one of the most recognizable faces. "50 Photographs", however, finds Lange on the other side of the camera. Originally drawn to the medium simply as a way to document the lives and growth of her children, Lange has now been photographing on and off for 15 years, approaching the art as an antidote to the constant fervor of Hollywood. "It is a way of working", she says of her process, "that is the opposite of acting. Photography doesn't depend on collaboration; it can be solitary and private". A 2007 feature in "Aperture", introduced by Mary Ellen Mark, gave the world its first taste of Lange's visual work; now, "50 Photographs" gathers her impressive portfolio, featuring images from Mexico, Africa, Romania, Russia, Finland, Italy, and France as well as the U.S., into her...
